Warm up
As befits a true professional, Derek places great emphasis on a proper warm-up to avoid injury. He begins each training session with isolation exercises such as flyes or bicep curls. He performs 2-3 sets of at least 15 repetitions and low weight. The muscles can get used to the movement and are optimally warmed up.

Heavy basic exercises
After the isolation sets, Derek performs compound exercises such as squats, deadlifts, and bench presses. These exercises target multiple muscle groups. Unlike the warm-up, here Derek uses a heavy weight with a low rep range.

Derek places great emphasis on correct execution. If necessary, he would even prefer to lower the weight before it would be at the expense of his execution. After all, he is a bodybuilder and not a strongman.

Training sets vary
During his training, Derek often uses supersets and drop sets. Through these exercises, Derek can continually build lean muscle mass and train until his muscles are completely fatigued.

Derek Lunsford's bodybuilding diet plan and food choices are quite typical of a professional bodybuilder. He eats every 2-3 hours and tries to get 50-60g of protein per meal.

He also pays close attention to ensuring that his diet has the correct macronutrient distribution and is particularly rich in vitamins and minerals to ensure a quick recovery from training.

He uses chicken, eggs and fish as protein sources. The carbohydrates come mainly from rice and there are always lots of fresh vegetables as a side dish. Almonds, avocado and coconut oil ensure the supply of sufficient healthy fats.

This year, Lunsford teamed up with pro creator Hany Rambod. That was a very good decision, as we all saw at Mr. Olympia. We would even go so far as to say that with Rambod behind us and the necessary talent and discipline, there is a guarantee of the title. Lunsford's Mr. Olympia (212) title was Hany's 20th title as an Olympic coach.
